Do you want to make a documentary? This course will provide you with a comprehensive overview of what it takes to produce your own nonfiction film or series. We’ll guide you through every step of the process: from the creative development of your idea to understanding the machinations of the industry to understanding the basics of how to execute your idea at a professional level. By the end of this course, you’ll know how to turn your ideas into reality and you’ll have the basics of a documentary proposal in hand.

Course taught by Julie Englander

Julie Englander’s class Developing the Documentary came at the perfect time for me. I have the film production skills, but I don’t necessarily know the business side of documentary filmmaking, such as writing grant proposals. In her class, Julie took us step-by-step through the proposal process and gave us great feedback every week. As far as the students go, we’re all coming at it from different vantage points and different experiences, which really enriches the feedback you get and the class discussion. Now that I have completed this class, I feel like I have the confidence to write my documentary proposal.
