Chicago Filmmakers has a five decade history of serving the local film community. Starting out as an exhibition and community space for experimental filmmakers and artists, the organization has since grown into a multi-faceted media arts organization that serves a wider community through year-round educational, exhibition, funding and professional development opportunities. Empowering local filmmakers and creating community around the love of cinema is what we’re all about.

“What I love about Chicago Filmmakers is the array of classes and workshops offered. For most of us who work full time or have other responsibilities, Chicago Filmmakers provides resources and classes that not only work during COVID (via Zoom), but also connect us to others who have a similar interest in the film industry. I have the film production skills, but I don’t necessarily know the business side of documentary filmmaking, such as writing grant proposals. In her class, Julie took us step-by-step through the proposal process and gave us great feedback every week. Now that I have completed this class, I feel like I have the confidence to write my documentary proposal.”
