This is an exploratory, creative, and business-oriented workshop on the uses and benefits of found footage filmmaking. Found footage, also known as appropriated or remixed footage, refers to the act of transforming found or discovered moving images from one piece into a new piece of work. In today's media culture in which YouTube, Vimeo, and other content-sharing platforms have made it particularly easy for anyone to download and repurpose media, it has become all the more imperative for filmmakers to understand both the creative and legal aspects involved with found footage filmmaking. This workshop is primarily designed for those filmmakers who intend to appropriate footage created by other individuals on a regular basis for job or art-related purposes. There will also be an emphasis on editing and experimental film styles as well as an emphasis on fair use and copyright.
