Introduced by Queer Cinema Scholar Rebecca Lavoie. When Queen Elisabeth I summons occultist John Dee to show her the future, Ariel, a spandex wearing angel with a shining crotch, takes them on a time-travelling journey, 400 years later, where the British Empire, along with any political system, has seemingly failed. Wandering in a decaying London, they meet three angry and bored punk girls and their friends only to witness a world of alternative queer desires, public sex, disillusion and occasional murder.
Jubilee has been said to be the most important British film of the late ’70s - it is the first and, to many, the best punk movie ever. (1978, 106 min., video)
