In his book Devotional Cinema, Nathaniel Dorsky argues how filmmaking can be a form of prayer, a rendering of unseen mysteries in our midst that can become for the viewer a kind of transcendent experience. His films are luminous testimonies of this belief, and his new films The Return and Pastourelle elevate visions of nature to ecstatic proportions. Other films on the program share a kindred spirit. Within by Robert Todd evokes a deep sense of mystery by capturing objects on the edge of perception. Union by Paul Clipson layers mythic images into a delirious incantation.
