A NEW BLACK CINEMATIC VERNACULAR: KINFOLK COLLECTIVE

Directed by: Kinfolk Collective

Programmed by Amir George

Kinfolk Collective utilizes ethnomusicology, radical black ideologies, traditional African cosmologies and narrative forms to inform the structure and visual language of our cinema. The program includes a collection of short films and a performative lecture expounding on a New Black Cinematic Vernacular. As moving images become the dominant form of communication Kinfolk seeks to subvert traditional approaches to cinema in hopes of creating a new black cinematic language. The performative lecture combines improvisatory theater and pedagogy to deconstruct the films presented and ideas in relation to this emerging cinematic language.
