Youth

Chicago Filmmakers offers seasonal programs for youth in film and video production.

Our most popular program is the Digital Moviemaking Summer Camps. Other youth programs take place at schools and organizations in the Chicagoland area.

The Digital Moviemaking Summer Camps cover all aspects of digital moviemaking, from initial concept to finished film. Enrollment begins in February and the camps run June through August. For more information, visit our Youth page here.

Chicago Filmmakers also develops youth courses for area schools and organizations. Often classes are designed to help students learn media literacy, gain technical proficiency and practice visual storytelling techniques. We promote a hands-on approach that can be applied immediately to projects designed to meet cirriculum needs. Chicago Filmmakers coordinates these programs directly with schools and organizations upon request.

Since 1991, Chicago Filmmakers has offered classes in filmmaking and media arts education to grammar and high-school age students in the Chicagoland area. Topics have included digital moviemaking, animation, and Super-8 film production. CF has traveled to area community centers and schools to reach a culturally diverse range of students. Programs have taken place at the Boys and Girls Clubs/Lathrop Unit, the Black on Black Love Art Center at the Robert Taylor Homes, Beacon St. Gallery, Jane Adams Hull House, the Chicago Children's Museum, Burley, Burnham and Stockton public schools, and at twelve Chicago Park District facilities. We have taught filmmaking classes at University of Chicago, Evanston Public Schools, and Chicago Public Schools through the Open Youth Networks program.
