RSVP is not required, but highly recommended. Email dykedelicious@chicagofilmmakers.org.

Dyke Delicious is a co-presentation of Black Cat Productions and the Reeling Film Festival.

Program

Butch Tits - Jen Crothers (2010, Canada, 4 min.) Butch women discuss the sometimes complicated relationship they have with their breasts.

Sleep Tight (Don’t Let the Bed Bugs Bite) - Lisa G (2009, Canada, 15 min.) A humorous checklist of the things a Vancouver queer couple had to do dealing with bed bugs.

Asylum – Lisa G (2008, Canada, 7 min.) Nurse Norma McMurdo recollects working at Riverview Mental Hospital from 1949-1951, and how her encounters with lesbian patients there lead her to believe that they weren’t actually crazy.

Thresholds - Linda Garcia Merchant (2011, Chicago, 6:30 min.) “Thresholds” is the urban tale about pushing barriers in the moments lived between each breath. Three people, Detective Gomez, Nancy and her son Benny, are touched by life changing events that will shatter assumptions encompassing the edge of humanity. Produced by Las Pilonas Productions, their goal is to produce narrative dramas that reflect the multi-cultural nuances of today’s Latino society. (Director in person)

The Kitteh Hutch – Erik Larson (2011, Chicago, 4 min) A highly stylized experimental short film created by actor/writer Sarah Levin, “The Kitteh Hutch” is a moment in the life of Mabel, a rebellious kitty with mutiny on her mind. Will Mabel succeed in her plans? (Sarah Levin in person)

INTERMISSION

Hey F*** Face – Amber Dawn (2008 Canada, 4 min.) “Hey F*** Face” is part two of a three part series of short video poems that explore the puzzling and often hazardous task of being human. Medical specimens, gender bending Christian clergy and kinky sex are just a few of the topics the whimsical narrator touches upon.

Jay Dreams - Catherine Pancake (2009, Baltimore, 30 min.) “Jay Dreams” is a short film based on a series of haikus written by writer and poet Jai Brooks and features 12 extremely unique, dom-fem performers of color from the Baltimore/DC area. The story addresses off-handed humor, awkward moments, sexual desire, gender expression, and the irreducible nature of life, relationships, and love within the African American queer scene.

The Lies We Tell But The Secrets We Keep (Trailer) – Coquie Hughes (2011, Chicago, 3 min.) Director in person

A Mind in Quicksand (Trailer) – Kim Lile (2011, Chicago, 3 min.) Director in person

Programmer's Statement:

Dyke Delicious was founded by film loving lesbians – festival volunteers, dedicated audience members and one filmmaker. Now in our eighth season, we always try to find stories that entertain and more often educate the viewer. Our choices may not always be P.C. but they certainly will start a conversation. We have premiered up and coming lesbian artists, hosted evenings with long established filmmakers and have included films and videos by or about straight folk. Our most common thread is to celebrate strong women. We are a diverse community of women and feminists who are open to seeing beyond our everyday perspective and to have spirited conversations with our sisters, straight friends and family.
